I'm your host, Dr. Ambar Faizi, and I'm excited to launch this podcast by sharing a bit about my journey and background and passion for forensic psychiatry. I grew up in the vibrant state of California, in a family deeply rooted in community, culture, and entrepreneurship, particularly in print media and hospitality.
My interests were quite [00:00:30] diverse while growing up, but my love for medicine was the most profound. I took a detour in my academic journey as I was led by my early interest in media and communication to a role as a TV network host when I was in college. I gained experience in entrepreneurship and cultivated meaningful life experiences before committing to my passion for medicine and embarking on my journey into medical training in Pennsylvania. After completing medical school, I returned to Southern California for my psychiatry residency training. Working with a [00:01:00] severely mentally ill and underserved population. During my training and attending physician gave me a piece of advice, which influenced my professional journey greatly. His advice was simple to read something related to my field every day.
And it was advice that I took to heart. I found myself particularly drawn to forensic psychiatry, often reaching for textbooks and articles or listening to lectures by renowned forensic experts. I had the privilege to train at the prestigious premier [00:01:30] forensic psychiatry fellowship program at the university of California at Davis with some of the leading experts in the field.
I'm double board certified in psychiatry and forensic psychiatry by the ABPN, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Alongside my role with the State of California Department of State Hospitals, my private clinical practice and adjunct faculty role at Loma Linda University, I'm a forensic psychiatric associate with fpamed.
In this capacity, I serve as a [00:02:00] forensic expert in civil cases to evaluate for emotional damages, trauma, Psychological harm and competencies to name a few, as well as in criminal matters related to criminal responsibility and competency. Through this podcast, I aim to share the knowledge, insights, and experiences I've gained, providing practical information that can aid attorneys in their engagement with forensic experts.
